Desk control panel
Background
It was a dark winter day in 2017. I don't remember what I was looking for from my desk (maybe a flash light) but I couldn't find it anywhere. That made me think I should have a decent lights in my desk on every shelf.
Some time in middle of the project I realized that I also want an audio amplifier. So, I ordered one. However, the front panel was finished at that point so the volume button couldn't fit in the design. I thought I wouldn't even need it since I can adjust the volume from my laptop.
Technical details
Desk control panel consists of the following three main parts:
- Front panel
- LEDs and LED stripes everywhere around the room
- Audio amplifier and stereo speakers
Lots of materials used are actually recycled:
- Lock is from an old desk drawer
- Main switch is from an old Salora TV
- There's a christmas gift ribbon roll for extra audio cable
- RGB LEDs are from an earlier disambled RGB LED light project
- Old stereo speakers from 80's
The key hole in a middle of the front panel can be downloaded from here. And the light shades for LEDs can be downloaded from here.
Usage
I've used the lights almost every day ever since I finished the desk control panel. And I have to say that it has been really useful in many situations.
Action
There's a short video telling the story of the desk control panel and the recycling. Enjoy (I'm not sorry about the music on the video since this time it's not composed by me) :)
Oh, by the way, I now have found the flash light.
