Wooden Solitaire

Background

Figure 1. Wooden Solitaire lid closed

I found a pocket version of Solitaire game one day this summer (summer 2026). I got it as a gift when I was a kid. I can't remember how old I was back then. But I liked the game.

If I remember correctly I solved the game only once or twice back then. This summer I solved it on a second try.

A few months later I purchased a router for another project's needs. But when I realised what I could do with it I started to work on the Wooden Solitaire immediately.

I thought it would take only a week to make it and a weekend to paint it. At the end, it took me three weeks to make and paint it.

The design

The design is very simple. I didn't use any applications to design it. The design was only in my head.

The main design idea was that it has to be a cool looking game. And I think I managed to achieve that. Hopefully, you like it too.

The project

As mentioned earlier, it took me three weeks to make the game including painting it.

I managed to make two mistakes during the project. The first one happened when I was chiseling a hollow for the hinges. A small piece of wood just came off that wasn't supposed to come off. Luckily, I managed to glue it back in place.

The second mistake happened at the very end of the project when I was drilling bigger holes for the pawns. Again, a small piece of wood came off that wasn't supposed to come off. This time I wasn't so lucky because I couldn't find the piece inside the vacuum cleaner.

End result

I'm a bit sad I made the mistakes. Especially, the second one. It is annoying since it can be seen so easily immediately when the lid is opened.

There's a short video below of me opening the lid of the game.
